On 25 January 2018, the Council of Government of the Mental Health Institute of Legal Profession (MHILP) met with Montse Pintó Sala, CEO of the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía (ISDE), and Mari Cruz Martín Delgado, President of the Sociedad Española de Medicina Intensiva, Crítica y Unidades Coronarias (SEMICYUC) and director of ISDE’s Health Area, in its Barcelona headquarters.
During this meeting, Manel Atserias Luque and Tomás Gabriel García Micó, as President and Vice President of the MHILP, respectively, signed the Collaboration Framework Agreement with ISDE.
Along with the signature of this Agreement, the meeting was also used to schedule a public workshop that will be held during the following months and focused on the legal professionals’ mental health and its economic consequences.
Manel assured that “counting with the support of ISDE is fundamental. The mental health of the legal profession is the competitive advantage of nowadays and of the future of the legal profession. A prove of that is that Anglo-Saxon countries are investing so many resources, both personal and economic, to face a problem that, notwithstanding not being of the public domain because of the stigma, it does affect too many legal professionals”.
Also, Tomás affirmed that “with the signature of this agreement, we have laid the first stone of a promising project that will prove that another way of being a lawyer is possible. The MHILP is an inclusive project, that is willing to add as many supports as possible and that will give a warm welcome to any person, physical or legal, that shares the MHILP’s values. From the MHILP, we will foster the cooperation to grant that the society, lawyers, and firms can benefit from this noble initiative”.
